    The Challenge:

Central to the United Nation’s agenda is to deliver upon the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) over the next 15 years. The goals are to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. By integrating SDG education and engagement into a platform and brand that African children already know and love, we can help millions of children in Africa understand what these goals are, why they are important, and how children themselves can engage in achieving them.

    The Partnership:

To celebrate Human Rights Day on 10 December, Ubongo collaborated with the United Nations Tanzania to create an episode introducing the Sustainable Development Goals to children in Africa. The episode addressed issues around Child Rights such as the right to education, the right to dream and the right to become whatever they want to be. The segment concentrated on the goal – “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Mama Ndege, our popular bird character, articulated the importance of the SDGs in a kid-friendly, approachable and pro-active way. Through this video, we were able to help empower children to engage in community-level behaviour change and cause a ripple of positive change across the larger global audience.

It also included a song, “We Can Be”, which communicated the powerful message that kids can achieve their dreams if given their rights.

    The Impact:

The episode has been viewed in over 27 countries across Africa, and the song ‘We Can Be’ has been viewed almost 200,000 times on YouTube.
